Skiathos Buses

Skiathos Buses :- The Main Bus service in Skiathos is surprisingly good, there is one main route from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries beach (the RED route), and two other routes (GREEN) to Evangalistra Monastery and (BLUE) to Ksanemos Beach. All the buses start from terminal 0 in Skiathos Town at the Park near the Elementary School.
The red line buses travel the full length of the southern coastal road from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries beach, here they turn around and return to the town via the same route. The Red Route buses are the larger of the vehicles, they will normally have a destination sign in the front windscreen of the vehicle. Buses will normally stop at bus stops if the driver has room on board and can see passengers waiting, you can of course signal them to stop as you would a bus in the UK. The buses will have a conductor on board who you pay and who will issue you with your ticket. The conductor will normally shout out the next stop before you arrive at it. You should always keep in mind that there is only the one major road, so if there is a problem en-route with the road there is no other route or service for most of the island.
Many visitors to Skiathos, do opt to use the local bus, it's cheep and fairly reliable, buses operate at about 20-30 minute intervals in the summer months during most of the day, the frequency of buses will reduce during the lunch period, and out of season are much less frequent.

Skiathos Buses

The Skiathos Bus Service Green route to Evangalistra Monastery, runs during the summer season, it is normally a white mini-bus, and the timetable can usually be found posted (on a piece of A4), stapled to the large tree near the bus terminus, on the bus shelter opposite or on the wooden kiosk close by. In most cases if you contact your hotel reception they should be able to give you details
The trip is only about 5km, with buses every 30-60 minutes. The route from the town to the Monastery is all up-hill, so whilst it is an interesting walk many people choose to take the bus up to the Monastery and walk back down.

The Blue route, also a mini-bus service, travels to Ksanemos (Xanemos) Beach on the north west side of the island, the route goes via the Airport and both ends of the runway, so is great if you wish to photograph airlines landing and taking off. The Blue route however is a bit of a mystery tour. It leaves from the red line bus stop number 4. Sometimes it will run other times it will not, so don't make plans relying on this bus service, always check locally to see if the bus service is running.

Skiathos Buses

Buses will often be crowded particularly between 4:00pm – 7:00pm coming back into town, if you are heading into town this time of day from one of the bus stops 18 onwards it can be better to catch the west-bound bus and stay on at stop 26 for the return to Skiathos.
